IT Consulting: The Sweet Spot

In order to work with sweet spot clients, you need more skills than you would need for micro clients. These companies have anywhere from 10-50 computers, and this is where you should focus most of your IT consulting efforts.

With 10-100 employees, these sweet spot clients usually have revenue earnings between $1 to $10 million. They also have numerous computers with most of them working off the Windows OS, and they will likely have one or two servers.

Skills Required

You will need a variety of hardware, networking, and other skills when working with sweet spot clients. You need to have experience working with server hardware as well as multiport communications applications adapters work for setting up remote access servers and serial port sharing.

In addition you should be familiar with the following programs and systems: Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Small Business Server, Novell NetWare, Novell Small Business Suite, and Linux.

You will also need to be comfortable working with sophisticated battery back up solutions, routers, and CSU/DSUs. Also start familiarizing yourself with Y-5 hardware and common management and SMP tasks.
