New Program for IT Consultants in Ireland Helps Profile Skills

In Ireland, a new program for IT consultants called the SKILLSCERT program allows consultants and firms to validate and certify job roles and skills. This program is fast becoming popular among the community of Irish recruiters.

Administered by ICS SKILLS in Ireland, the training and certification arm of the Irish Computer Society, the SKILLSCERT program has become even more popular since Ireland’s largest recruitment and HR Solutions organization, CPL Solutions partnered with ICS Skills. Together, the two groups are making the program national.

CPL Solutions specializes in recruiting IT consultants and has offices nationally in Dublin, Kildare, Westmeath, Limerick, Cork and Galway. Three of the company’s consultants are currently receiving training from ICS SKILLS in SKILLSCERT. According to CPL Solutions spokespeople, SKILLSCERT gives training in many of the issues in the IT recruitment industry. They stress the need to create a standardized language for describing job roles and skills in the recruitment industry, and that these roles and skills need to be tailored for individual companies. SKILLSCERT helps individuals decide what their companies need to work, and gives companies the ability to perform skills audits so they can recruit the best employees.

SKILLSCERT uses a specially-designed online application that allows professionals to profile their skill sets and relate them to their jobs and level of responsibility within the company. SKILLSCERT uses SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) to assist with the profiling. SFIA is recognized internationally as the main way to identify skills and job roles in the IT industry. Once the profile is verified by ICS Skills through these systems, a certificate is issued that confirms the IT consultant’s particular skills.

SKILLSCERT also gives IT departments a skills audit that helps them assess where there are gaps in their business and help them decide how they can hire employees to fill these gaps.
