Small Business IT Consulting: Targeting The Sweet Spot

Many small business IT consulting companies choose to market themselves to "sweet spot small business clients." IT consultants working for these companies begin to see hourly rates breaking $100 per hour and even more depending on where you live.

These businesses have outgrown peer-to-peer setups and now have one or more dedicated servers. This can be to your advantage since there tends to be less quality competition at this level. Companies at this level really must have help, and a qualified professional will find a lot of work with these companies.

Know a sweet spot business when you see it – 10-50 computers; 10-100 employees, and $1-$10 million in yearly revenue; some companies even bring in as much as $20 million. When you see these businesses, create a marketing plan that addresses their needs and begin to court them.
