Wal-Mart To Sell Build-Your-Own Computers

Another company jumps on the bandwagon for building custom computer packages, and this time it's really big – Welcome, Wal-Mart. As of this month, a third of U.S. stores will begin marketing build-your-own computers.

Shoppers will now be able to choose between several different components instead of prepackaged sets. Last year, the idea was tested in about 20 locations and was a hit with shoppers.

Although Wal-Mart isn't likely to lower prices enough to hurt Dell, but they may cut profit margins for other companies, especially smaller computer stores. So, if you're selling computers to consumers make sure you're adding value, or you just might be saying goodbye.
