You probably have quite a few technical skills by now from working at other jobs. Maybe you even have a few quality certifications. But, do you have what it takes to run your own computer consulting firm?
Technical skills aren't everything when it comes to running your own business. You need them, don't get me wrong, but that's not all you need. Some of the best computer consultants start out with just a few technical skills and increase their knowledge over the years.
What you really need is personality. You will need to be able to talk to people, create a relationship, and sell them on you, not just your products and prices. You will also need to be organized enough to take care of the accounting or at least be able to keep up with the information to give your bookkeeper. In addition, you will have to create marketing plans and materials.
