Lawsuit Against VAR500 Company Alleges Hiring Violations

We all know that VARs often look to the competition to find the brightest talent, but one company seems to have taken things a too far. Calence has filed suit against Dimension Data, claiming that the company intended to take down Calence by stealing all their employees.

Calence seems to have a strong argument. Thirteen of Calence's 14 employees resigned during the same week in February and according to the company, they took over 32,000 pages of data with them that included trade secrets.

Although Dimension Dat did not respond for comment, Rob Pinkham, Calence executive vice president of marketing, had this to say, "The main effect [of the defections] is the reduction of business in that market. We're rebuilding the office, but the previous team was a veteran group."

The moral of the story? Be careful how you act and what you request when you try to recruit top talent from other VARs. Sometimes in the rush for the best bottom line, companies forget where the ethical line is drawn. Even if Dimension Data is innocent, they still seem to have crossed a line simply by recruiting so many people from one company at the same time.
