Security Is Biggest Drawback To Wireless Networks: Survey

Two hundred companies were recently surveyed by Gartner concerning the drawbacks to using wireless networks. Even those companies using wireless networks seem to be concerned as 95% of companies responded that they were concerned about the security of their wireless networks.

The following is a short list of the survey's results:

64% plan to increase their wireless LAN deployments in the next year.
Of those, 44% said the primary reason for deployment was to improve productivity;
21% want to use wireless LAN to provide access to places not possible to wire;
13 % claim that wireless networks areless expensive or simpler to deploy than traditional LANs, or that they can be used to improve efficiency in specific business processes or operations.

Although so many companies have plans to implement wireless LAN in the workplace, 95% still had security concerns. Additionally, 60% of the companies said that they don't have adequate security for both planned and existing networks.
