Computer Consulting 101: Advice for Solving Your Own Simple PC Problems

In today’s technologically-run world, most businesses need to employ a good local computer consulting firm to handle on-going computer issues. Still, there are certain computer problems that can be managed by even the least technically-savvy in a company. Computer Consulting 101 offers the following bit of advice for anyone facing a computer issue: reboot.

While this word might seem to be a simple answer to what could, at first appear to be a huge computer problem, in truth 10-20 percent of computer problems can actually be totally fixed by this method. Because computer consulting firms can be incredibly expensive, you want to think twice about calling them for every little issue that crops up; your IT budget should be saved for major emergencies and on-going necessary support.

To reboot, simply exit out of files and programs and run through the typical shutdown and restart sequence as outlined on your computer. If you’ve thought about the issue you’re facing and think it may be related to a hardware aspect of the PC, such as a network card, modem, mouse, keyboard or sound card, go a step further:

1. Go to your start menu.

2. Shut your PC down.

3. Turn the power on the computer off for a minute or more, assuming your computer didn’t power itself off of its own volition.

4. Turn the power back on and see if the problem resolved itself.

Even though this advice seems painfully simple, it can save you money in the long run and avoid an embarrassing call to your computer consulting firm.
